kaiwi (molokai) channel association controversy

hey guys, I need to rant...if you are going to swim the kaiwi channel(Molokai-Oahu) you should know that there are TWO associations. just letting you know that myself and bill goding are the molokai(kaiwi) channel swimmers association. we are 2 channel swimmers in Hawaii and we started our association because there was no one answering questions that swimmers were asking. there is another association and they are claiming that they are the ONLY ones that can certify a crossing. NOT TRUE. you don't even need to swim with an association to be certified, but you must fill out all paper work and submit it to the Hawaii channel swimmers association, if you go with our association we do all the paper work and submit it to the Hawaii channel swimmers association and you will be listed on their site and our site. the other association submits nothing and your listing is on their site only.
the main goal of both associations is to get the swimmer across safely. both associations can certify a crossing. thanks for letting me vent. aloha

    • website?
    • sanction fees?
    • observers and documentation?
    • insurance?
    • escort boats?
    • paddle support?
    • rules?

These are details that would assist swimmers in making decisions on which organization to go with.

  • go to the sites. google Molokai channel swim
both associations have all of the above. there are no sanction fees here in Hawaii. we use English channel rules. start on land , finish on land. no touching anything in between are the most important.

You provide observers but don't charge sanction fees?

  • yes . we provide observers and don't charge. we know its a lot of money to come to Hawaii and swim. its called aloha spirit.its not like we have an overwhelming amount of swimmers!
the Hawaii channel swimmers association only sanctions the swim. it would be up to the swimmer to get a boat and observers and kayakers. that is why we created our association. the Hawaii channel swimmers association was just referring anyone interested in swimming kaiwi to either bill goding or myself. so we stepped forward and took charge so to speak. go to our blog , pick a captain . he will help with setting a date. he will at some point get in touch with bill or myself. we touch base with the swimmer and extend advice/help. the boat fee includes kayakers.observers will be onboard.
