All the best to the swimmers at 8 Bridges 2017 who get in the water 1 week from today. An awesome challenge and experience in a unique environment. Shout out to David Barra who inspires the craziness associated with stage swims and the wacky world of swimmers it attracts. May the swims be long and the beers be cold.

When you live in the Borderlands -- crime doesn't sleep. And that's the business I'm in -- crime. You have a great group coming out as I identified only a couple of wingnuts in your lineup. I need to get out there in 2018 - I need to make it happen. All the best.

Why are half of the dots still clustered about the starting line an hour after the start?

This is the first time NYOW has used their new fleet of SPOT trackers, and some of them needed to be restarted. I think they're all working now.

In general, keep in mind the dots represent electronic devices with non-zero failure rates. When a dot doesn't seem to be moving, the most likely interpretation is the device has stopped transmitting.

Two very stubborn swimmers dragged the curve way to the right this year after fighting the current for a few hours. Nice work! Stage1-2017

I've really enjoyed using this tracker app. It's extremely useful to locate swimmers and direct when I am miles away and out of visual contact. If there were a way to overlay the tracker info over my navionics charts........ I wouldn't have to switch back between screens.

Stage 3 was a tad faster than average. The 100% success rate for this stage with 73 swims to date. Stage3-2017

Stage 4 was slightly slower this year, with Harry and Steve setting the two slowest times for the stage, but they won an asterisk-free day. This this the most-swum stage (75), and this is the first year without 100% completion. Stage4-2017

Last year, 2 of 15 got past the Beast. This year, 13 of 15. Including all seven 7-stage swimmers. If one ever needs to feel invincible, a dot on this graph as stage 5 of 7 is a good way do it.

Stage 6 with another perfect score, 21/21. 80% of successful swims took place in the last three years - this event feels much older than it is sometimes.
