Wannsee, Berlin, Germany

So, enlisting the wealth of knowledge that is the members of the MSF. Does anyone know if anyone has swum the length of the Wannsee in Berlin, between Wilhelmstadt in the north and the Schloss Cecilienhof in the south?

    Hi Mike,
I also checked and could not find any documentation for the Wannsee. As far as I know there is only Lake Constance (Bodensee) with an own organization to register and document three different swims (http://www.bodenseequerung.de/) and - if you prefer saltwater - of course the crossing of the Baltic sea (http://beltquerung.de/). I've done both so let me know if you need anything.

Another source of information could be the local unit of the "DLRG" (Deutsche Lebensrettungsgesellschaft) or the "Wasserwacht" of the Red Cross. Those two are the biggest Life Saving Organizations and they might have the information you need. I asked and used them to accompany me and officially observe when I did a longer crossing in a lake in Hessen (Edersee). In my experience they look funny at you if you explain what you intend to do ("You wanna do WHAT?" :-) ) but then are very helpful and certainly a good source to ask for conditions, currents, boat traffic, permits and everything else. As far as I can see the Wannsee is under watch of the DLRG (https://berlin.dlrg.de/kontakt.html) if you want to ask them.

Other than that I agree with @Nieks source - there are many beautiful lakes around Berlin with less traffic that I would prefer. If you want to skip the logistics you also can choose from a wide variety of organized open water swims all over Germany (see a list here: http://schwimmkalender.de/freiwasserschwimmen2017.html). Let me know if you need anything, happy to help and I might even join you. :-)
