Energy Drink Breakthrough Claimed

Maurten, a new Swedish company, is claiming that they have developed a new energy drink that allows more carbohydrate to be taken/digested at each feeding. Normally, increased carbos leads to slower gastric emptying and, in some, cramping. this results in the often anecdotally reported limit of about 300 calories/hour of carbo intake. Maurten claims to have broken this "barrier" and said that Kenenisa Bekele used it when he ran the second fastest marathon ever last week in Berlin. It is not available yet, but they say it will be available sometime in 2017.

I think there was a good scientific evidence a couple of years ago that showed that absorption could be enhanced by adding fructose. I think it had to do with multiple transport system through the gut wall, and fructose being able to take advantage of one that had previously not been used.

Perhaps it is something in vein with this.
