Awesome swim; hopefully it was documented. I measure more like ~59km for the straight-line distance between those two islands --> 3.66 kph, a bit more believable pace.

The text in the website linked by @Niek is a Press note; it's been copied in several Spanish local media (I found at least 5 or 6); no more info available.

They shared the Garmin track in Twitter:

Quite interesting. Partial swims show speeds ranging from 10 km/h (right after the gap) to 1 km/h (7.15 PM, 9.15 PM), with some 5 and 6 km/h. For those expert observers here, does this make sense to you? (I'm unable to give any conclusion.) What do you think of the large gap in the middle of the track? (it's between 9.15 PM and 1.24 AM; he swam mostly in the night).

Sadly, the organizers made no reference about Marathon swimming (neither in their web, nor social media, nor the web where they get the donations); only brief references about no wetsuit and "unassisted". In fact, in his bio (in the same web, where he features his acomplishments) he never mentions "Marathon swimming", EC rules, etc.

I grabbed the Garmin data and put it on a track.rs page, see here:

    https://track.rs/4

Click the "chart" icon to see speed/progress over time.

Clearly this was not a straightforward swim, and it will be interesting to hear more details from his crew and observers.

I do wish people would use proper route distances and not inflated GPS track totals.

That said, Christian is a highly accomplished marathon swimmer, some of his more well known swims are listed here:
