For some reason @loneswimmer has coerced me into resurrecting my blog, that seemed like too much work so I set up a new one entirely: FermoyFish.com for anyone who's interested...
To IronMike and WaterGirl. I read both of your blogs. WaterGirl, you don't post often enough. I take a lot of motivation just knowing what everyone else is doing. A short post is 100 times better than a no post to me.
Here's my blog for my English Channel attempt: againsttheti.de
Like @zhodge said, I try to post every couple of days. Usually just photos but anything to keep it ticking over. @owenswims93 - loved the post on the Russian Winter Swimming Championships. Terrifying stuff!
I have a little blog that I just started. No braggin' because I haven't done any long distance open water swimming yet. But I'm training hard and dreaming big thanks to the inspiration I've found here. mollysbigswim.blogspot.com
Just a reminder for everyone: You can add your website or Facebook etc and your Twitter account to your Profile. Just select your own name >Edit My Account and add whatever you want. This way your links will be more readily available from other threads and comments should you so desire.
Mine is http://www.ALongSwim.com. It is partly marathon swimming, partly fundraising (US$200,000 to date for the Les Turner ALS Foundation in Chicago), partly the aftermath of spinal surgery. A more entertaining blog is my wife's, http://www.MyBionicBoyfriend.com. She is a better writer and talks about OWS from a behind-the-scenes perspective. Enjoy.
Not my own blog, but a website recently set up and operated by the Chauncy Maples Malawi Trust to advertise my upcoming North Channel attempt and the renovation of the Chauncy Maples hospital ship it supports.
I'm cheating as this is an update. LoneSwimmer has no balls. Second time winning the national Best Sports & Recreation category blog (last time in 2012). Only swimmers will appreciate what it is to beat all the ball sports hordes in a ball sport obsessed country.
Any good ones? New ones?
Probably not..and not exactly... but I did start a blog back when I completed an ice mile in March 2013. Added a few more stories (swim write ups really) during 2013, including a couple of back dated ones, then it stalled when I hit the post channel swim blues period. Added a couple since, but have quite a few more swim stories unpublished as incomplete drafts. I stopped writing lots, but didn't stop swimming. Maybe I'll go revisit the drafts and get them out there. Who knows..someone might read them. wildhighlanderswims.wordpress.com
It is very cute. However...and this is probably a separate thread...
But.. note my hesitation in bringing this up...
I really think that relays shouldn't be signing the wall on the White Horse.
I've done two relays.. and a single solo.. and I have yet to sign it.
The space taken up by some people, and relays is really too much.
I think the historical part was if you completed a solo.. you signed.
Not sure when relays started going up.
( speaking of up, I am putting my shield up now)
Recently conquered my first marathon swim (December 2015)! The help on this forum was invaluable: thank you. I swim for a charity in 'Straya (though I was born a pom). 5 year open water blob - maybe a little eccentric - documents my journey from novice to marathon swimmer. Ponderings range from facts about Noahs to feral goats, nuthuggers, micro-nations, nude swims and dog swims and the best luminous pants. I do try to see the funny side - hard not to surely when confronted by loob and sea lice in your smalls. Love any feedback. (http://www.lizziecantoo.wordpress.com)
I realize this thread hasn't been commented on in over a year, but I recently started a blog and I would really appreciate any support!! Training for Anacapa to mainland next month.
Great job, @PaigeKieding . Your blog seems like it was written by someone who's been doing this a lot longer than you. You have an "old swimmer's soul". Seems you've mastered the most important things: loving the water and swimming in the moment. Fun read. Really awesome to vicariously experience all of the joy & excitement of your swims through your writing. Couple of thoughts:
(1) Get on top of that shoulder issue asap. You're too young to have shoulder pain. It will only get harder to manage as your physical body catches up with your soul. There's probably a mechanical solution with your stroke. Find a good swimming-oriented medical professional to give you some advice. The high-elbow strategy is a great one. One other thought (although there are many possibilities): on your breathing strokes, make sure you're delaying your catch until you're all the way through your roll so you you're not pulling out to your side (too much torque).
(2) From your writing and pics, it looks like you've got a strong kick. There are plenty of marathon swimmers who are strong kickers (including most of the ones on the podium), but the majority only kick for balance and buoyancy. And for good reason: kicking recruits the largest muscle groups in your body (glutes, quads, hams) but produces the least amount of propulsion. This works fine for short-medium swims. But as you get up into the 10, 20, 30 mile range, you may find your strong kick is draining too much of your fuel. Consider a two beat kick. But don't make any adjustments before Anacapa!
Good luck on your first channel swim! Use @evmo 's track.rs so we can watch.

@PaigeKieding really enjoyed reading your blog and wish I had gotten to meet you at Semana Nautica 6 mile! Can't wait to follow your Anacapa!
@Spacemanspiff Thank you for your advice and kind words! I've swam competitively for the past 8 years, but I had never experienced any shoulder pain until I started playing water polo a year and a half ago. Water polo is pretty hard on your shoulders, so I'm guessing that's what caused the pain in the first place. I'm working on being much more careful not to overexert my shoulders in practice. The high-elbow strategy seems to work well, and I usually don't notice any pain when I have a bit of aspirin in my feeds. Also- I've heard that I should kick less from a lot of people. I have a six-beat kick right now due to years of competitive club swimming but I'm definitely working on changing my stroke up a bit! Thanks again for your support

Any new or previously undiscovered open water blogs out there?
As you may or may not be aware, we maintain a Global Feed of open water blogs.
That link is also available via the MENU button near the top-left of the main Forum page.
Any blogs posted on this thread, we add to that feed, with the hopeful consequence of increasing your readership
Also, FYI, the "Recent blog post" section of the newsletter is derived from the aforementioned feed.
Would you have a link for that post? I can't seem to find it in the blog--which, btw, I love!
