  • I really hope he makes it and for what it's worth, I think he will this time. He's done some SERIOUS training and he's very well sorted mentally about the swim.

During the Diana Nyad controversy, I asked Steve @Munatones about the "longest unassisted swim" world record. Interestingly, he said the debate about Diana "breaking" Penny's record was moot, because the record is actually held by Veljko Rogošić, who apparently swam 140 miles in the Adriatic Sea in 2006.

Anybody have any insights about this?
  • Okay.. then.. logs? reports? It says without flippers.. what about a stinger suit? rules? observers?
I mean if we ask these things of dn, then why not of this man? GBWR must have had SOME sort of documentation. I don't see any on the site.
BUT>..>> this is Paul's cheering section ** GO PAUL!

Suzie, I'm not saying we shouldn't ask for documentation of Mr. Rogošić's swim (even though he passed away last year). However, Paul is making the claim that this would be the longest unassisted swim in history. It is relevant to ask whether that claim can be legitimately made.

    GO PAUL!
  • @evmo... ah.. misunderstood the comment. Thanks.
    You can do this Paul!

A quick update on SwimCortez: the swim will be launching in 3 days or less, depending on the weather & tides -- starting between Nov. 4, 3 a.m. and Nov. 5, 8 a.m., Guaymas, Mexico Time.
Thank you for your support of Paul Lundgren. I'm moving on from the World Record conversation -- because I don't think this is important to Pablo.

Pablo's goal is to follow a dream. He's drawn to swim across the Sea of Cortez. In the process, he's hoping to raise awareness for a Loreto, Mexico based non-profit, Eco Alianza, that teaches children there about conservationism. Pablo also wants to connect with people on matters of heart & soul. He wants to inspire others so that they might follow their dreams.
I'm a friend of Pablo's, helping with his social media before & during the swim. If you are curious about the swim, we hope you follow along on his website to view the live-time spot tracker: http://www.swimcortez.com/

Also, please follow Twitter & Facebook for more detailed updates:

If you'd like to encourage Pablo, or wish him well, he would love to hear from you. Feel free to send a message to him, or write on our Facebook wall, or you can leave a comment on SwimCortez.com. Pablo is extremely is grateful for the support that many of you have shown, he is humbled by it. You should read it in his own words, not mine: http://swimcortez.wordpress.com/

    Suzie,
I'm sorry you aren't able to get the SPOT tracker or social media to work for you.
He's about 20 miles in. He started at 10:10 Mountain Time/9:10 PST last night.
