On July 19, 2016 Charlotte Brynn, 50, a New Zealand national and resident of Stowe, Vermont, completed a marathon open water swim leaving from the wharf at Georgeville, Quebec at 7:30 am, crossing the US Canadian Border, and landing at the boat ramp in Newport, Vermont at 2:11:58 pm for an elapsed time of 6:41:58. Total distance of the swim was 14.77 miles or 23.77 km. Two other solo swimmers participated in the swim, Karen Scherer, 41, of Waitsfield, Vermont (skins) and Maguy Deslauriers, 25, of Saint-Hyacinthe, QC who swam with a wet suit as part of a fundraiser, raising over $5,000 got lymphoma and leukemia research.

Water temperatures were 73 F throughout. There were light and variable winds at the start about 5 mph from the E. They increased in the afternoon to 10 to 15 mph from the NNW.

I witnessed this swim throughout, start to finish and attest that it was conducted in strict conformance with the rules and spirt of traditional marathon swimming. It has been sanctioned by NEKOWSA as the first known marathon swim between Georgeville and Newport. The time has been entered into the NEKOWSA records as the current record for this swim.
